PNW’s Best Fencing
The South Puget Sound Region has a wet, windy, and salty climate that makes it tough on traditional fence material due to accelerating decay from rot, rust, warping, and mold. Climate factors to consider:
Rain & Moisture: There are over 150 days of rain per year, creating damp conditions. Untreated or poorly sealed wood absorbs water causing swelling, warping, and rot. Mold and mildew thrive in the damp climate.
Humidity & Fog: high humidity in the area encourage fungal growth and discoloration on wood, and if not properly coated, iron and steel can be subjected to rusting.
Salt Air: Salt accelerates corrosion on metal fences, and fence fasteners and hardware.
Wind & Storms: Puget Sound areas are subject to high winds and storms which can topple and tilt fences due to improperly secured posts and panels.
Soil Movement & Drainage: Soils get saturated from all that rain and cause posts to shift and fences to sag. Poor drainage also leads to waterlogged posts when they are not set in concrete or gravel.
